All Together Now, the 2023 Summer Reading theme, will be presented by the Orford Libraries through books, activities, and special presentations. In the spirit of togetherness, we invite people of all ages and abilities to join us for six exciting Wednesday morning story times. You are encouraged to bring out your inner child and find joy!
June 28 Kindness Hour (10:00) Orford Social Library Come for a relaxing hour of kindness. Explore the different ways you can be kind to everyone, including yourself! Listen to a book about kindness and create a special kind rock (or two) you can leave someplace to spread joy and inspire others to be kind.
July 5 Music Makers (10:00) Orford Free Library We will get in the musical mood by listening to Max Found Two Sticks by Brian Pinkney. Then we will celebrate music making by creating and playing our own instruments made with recycled and repurposed materials.
July 8 Squam Lakes Science Center Program (12:00) Orford Playground Pavilion Come and enjoy this outdoor presentation of All Together Now: Earth Heroes, featuring three live animals. It will take place at the Playground Pavilion near the Connecticut River Boat Landing.
July 12 Get Your Body Moving (10:00) Orford Playground at the Boat Landing Road in Orford Come listen to a story about how we are unstoppable when we work together. Then prepare to have fun and get your body moving with some games and movement activities. (Note: we will be reading in a dry location but will be playing games rain or shine. Please come dressed for the weather).
July 15 Become an Animal Adventurer (11 a.m.) with Susie Spikol, author or The Animal Adventurer’s Guide. Learn how to catch a frog, make slug slime and more! Fun for all ages.
July 19 Do Colors Make Sounds? (10:00) Orford Social Library Come and learn about the life and art of famous abstract painter Wassily Kandinsky (Ms. Brynne’s favorite artist). Create some colorful abstract art to be displayed for some special friends and see if you can hear the sounds color make.
July 26 Creating Music Together (10:00) Orford Congregational Church, Rt 10 Musician Irene Drew will be our guest. She will lead us in the creation of a unique musical experience. We encourage people of all ages to come together for this adventure. No previous musical experience is needed!
August 9 Elephant and Piggie: Friends Forever (10:00) Orford Free Library First will read some of the beloved Mo Willems books featuring best friends, Elephant and Piggie. Then we will make Elephant and Piggie puppets and use them to act out some of the stories. (There will be an opportunity to present the skits at an upcoming luncheon at the Orford Senior Center.)
